The Challenge

It is widely acknowledged that Africa has been hardest hit by the HIV AIDS pandemic and there are broader political and environmental factors impacting seriously upon vulnerable communities. The most vulnerable of all are children. Whilst many efforts have been initiated and some progress has been seen with regards to protecting the rights of children and moving towards the Millennium Development goals, sub-Sahara Africa is still not making sufficient progress against targets.  There is still a long way to go.

The ACC currently works in ten countries across Southern and Eastern Africa and will hope to expand its programmes further across this region.  Read more about our programmes and activities here

In this region our current programme offers supported open distance learning for people caring for an supporting vulnerable children their families and communities.  The ACC aims to provide accredited education to single mothers or grandmothers, community based volunteers, teachers, church youth group leaders, youth caring for their younger siblings, nurses and entry level programme officers working in one of the over 2000 Community or Faith Based Organisations (CBO’s, FBO’s) in Africa.

Further than this we will work with Educational institutions in each country to strengthen locally accredited and relevant education towards a clear professionalization of the social welfare sector.

We believe in Partnerships as a way of making things happen.  We couldn’t achieve all that we have and all that we hope to without our two founding partners – REPSSI and the University of KwaZulu Natal. Read more about our partners here
